An undated photo of the Parker-Kerr Mortuary, 215 N. Stone. According to the Arizona Historical Society, Olva Parker, who served as a member of the City Council then Mayor of Tucson, established the Parker Mortuary. Decades after his death Parker’s son-in-law, Roscoe Kerr, bought the business changing the name to Parker-Kerr then eventually to Arizona Mortuary. Tucson Citizen file photo

An October 1962 photograph of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3750 E Fort Lowell Rd. The First Ward LDS Chapel was built in 1928 and over the years enlarged. According to news reports, more than $225,000 and 6,000 hours of volunteer labor went into the improvements. It was also the meeting place for the Fifth Ward. Tucson Citizen

After six months of construction, the framework for the new Kino Community Health Center on East Ajo Way near South Country Club is in place on, April 30, 1975, as the $24 million southside hospital is set to replace the Pima County General Hospital. Kiddyland

A woman and a number of children take a ride on the merry-go-round at Kiddyland, 3943 E Speedway near Alvernon on Dec 1962. In the era before television Sam and Ruth Cohen opened Kiddyland in 1949 and operated the playland for children until 1958. They had a Ferris wheel, roller coaster, train, cars on two-and-a-half acres. By 1962, Luverne Hicks took over the operation and had 10 mechanical rides and for a flat rate of $11.85 a birthday party of eight could be entertained with cake, ice cream, party favors, and eight rides apiece. At the time of the 1962 article, Hicks had hoped to move the operation to what was then, Randolph Park. Apparently, it did not work out.

Several buildings near the corner of West Mc Cormick Street and South Stone Avenue in downtown Tucson on May 11, 1965. According to the article there were freighting teams that once used a corral in the rear of these restored homes on West McCormick St. An occupant by the name of Felipi Trapani had a tree and flower garden on the site of the concrete patio in front of 28 and 30 West McCormick (the building on the far left). All the structures were in the proposed urban renewal area of the 1960s and 1979’s and eventually torn down to make way for the downtown police and fire station. Tucson Citizen
