Sen.John McCain wished his wife, Cindy, a happy birthday Sunday on Twitter.
The post included a new photo of the couple at their Arizona ranch where the longtime Republican leader continues to fight an aggressive cancer.
In the photo, the 81-year-old McCain and his wife sit tall in two wood chairs near a creek and their dog rests at their feet.
McCain was diagnosed in July with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. He left Washington in December but has continued to make national headlines by speaking out on several political issues.
Earlier this month, he urged his fellow senators to reject President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the CIA. A White House aide subsequently dismissed his opposition, saying it "doesn't matter" because "he's dying anyway," setting off a firestorm of criticism and calls for a public apology.
The swearing-in ceremony of Gina Haspel is set today at the Central Intelligence Agency.
