U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Nogales seized more than $1.2 million worth of illicit drugs on Thursday, the agency said Friday evening.

A 32-year-old Mexican man was referred for further inspection of his Dodge truck by officers at the Dennis DeConcini Crossing.

A narcotics canine alerted the officers to an odor coming from the vehicle which led to more than 47 pounds of heroin exceeding $824,000, along with an additional 59 pounds of methamphetamines worth more than $177,000 hidden in vehicle.

In a separate incident, officers seized more than 79 pounds of meth from a 33-year-old Tucson woman after further inspection led to discovery of the drugs. The approximate value of the drugs in her Ford truck was $238,000.

The drugs, vehicles and the people arrested were turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
