Firefighters from the Northwest Fire District responded to a mobile home on Tucson's north side after multiple emergency calls for smoke coming from the structure.

The first crew arrived at the home on Linda Lee Drive and Wetmore Road four minutes after calls were received at 2:53 p.m. Upon arrival, they reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the home, a news release said.

When firefighters entered the residence, a firefighter's breathing equipment was knocked off while in its interior. The firefighter was transported to a hospital as a precaution after suffering smoke inhalation.

The crews changed tactics and fought the fire from outside the home as the structural conditions were "deteriorating" inside. It took almost one hour to extinguish the fire.

The residents, a family of six, were not home when the fire started and will be displaced as the home suffered significant damage. A Northwest Fire Community Assistance Team is helping the family.

Investigators are at the scene attempting to determine the cause of the fire.
