The US and Israel’s war on Iran has continued into its fifth day, prompting retaliatory strikes on Israel and attacks on US military bases across the Middle East.  Despite US-Israeli claims that Iran’s military has weakened, with nearly 2,000 targets struck, Iran shows no signs of defeat as it continues retaliatory strikes. US President Donald Trump has said that additional US-Israeli strikes targeted Iranian leadership after the first day of fighting, which killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Preliminary data from the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency indicates that over 1,000 people, including children, have died in Iran since the conflict began. High-ranking Iranian officials have convened virtually to choose Khamenei’s successor, according to reports from Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency. The conflict has spread to Lebanon, where Israel has launched strikes against the Iran-backed military group Hezbollah, issuing evacuation orders for dozens of villages in the region.
