The Baltimore Ravens have hired Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to be their head coach, the team has announced. According to ESPN, Minter is signing a five-year contract with the Ravens, who fired John Harbaugh earlier this month after 18 seasons at the helm. "I am truly honored to serve as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. This is an organization whose values, culture and tradition of excellence reflect everything I believe about the game of football and how it should be played,” said Minter. Minter served under Harbaugh’s brother, Jim Harbaugh, over the past four seasons at the University of Michigan and the Chargers. The 42-year-old becomes just the fourth Ravens head coach in the franchise’s 31-year history, as well as the youngest ever. Minter led the Chargers to the fifth-ranked defense in the NFL last season, giving up 285.2 yards per game in the process. The season prior, the Chargers allowed a league-best 17.7 points per game under Minter, whose defense ranked second in QBR allowed at 50 and seventh in yards per play at 7.2 during his two-year stint in LA. Minter served as a defensive assistant in Baltimore in 2017 and 2018 before becoming assistant defensive backs coach in 2020 and defensive backs coach a year later.
