These 5 Wildcats under Sean Miller left Arizona early and went undrafted
Rawle Alkins and Allonzo Trier became the fourth and fifth players under Sean Miller at Arizona to leave school early for the NBA Draft and not get taken. Here’s what happened to the previous three:

Trier's time in Tucson was limited by a pair of PED suspensions and a broken hand. Still, he was able to score over 1,300 points over three seasons and collect a Pac-12 Tournament MVP award. He was a projected first-rounder as one of the top guards of his class in 2015, but never seemed to fully take off as he missed 22 games total for two separate failed drug tests. He struggled at times on the court during the combine, but reportedly impressed the New York Knicks enough during a pre-draft workout that they even considered drafting him. He'll end up in New York, anyway, on a two-way deal.

Alkins was a projected first-round pick when he came to Arizona as a five-star prospect. He declared for the draft this year even after a broken foot forced him to miss 12 games as a sophomore. Alkins touted his versatility and defensive potential at the NBA combine and during pre-draft workouts, all to no avail on draft night. He even showed well leading up to the draft, shooting accurately while recording 17 points, six rebounds and five blocks in a combine game. Sports Illustrated reported that Alkins and the Raptors reached an agreement after the draft, meaning Alkins should at least make Vegas for summer league.

A five-star recruit out of Atlanta, Simmons arrived as a one-and-done prospect at Arizona and left even after he fell out of the Wildcats’ playing rotation with the return of Allonzo Trier from a suspension. Simmons signed a two-way contact with Memphis and wound up playing 32 games with the Grizzlies and the rest with Comanche and the Memphis Hustle.

Former UA big man Chance Comanche made his NBA debut for the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday, April 9, 2023.
While promising on the court, the UA briefly suspended Comanche for academics, and his playing time was limited behind Kaleb Tarczewski, Dusan Ristic and Lauri Markkanen. He left as a sophomore but was not invited to the NBA combine. Comanche caught on with Memphis’ G League team and signed a G League contact. Memphis currently holds his G League rights but he is free to sign with any NBA team.

After a serious foot injury suffered as a sophomore derailed his UA career, Ashley left Arizona as a junior. He played with Atlanta in 2015 summer league, then went to camp with Dallas but was cut. He split the 2015-16 season between the Mavericks’ G League affiliate and Berlin, Germany, and did not play in 2016-17. Ashley returned to camp with Dallas in preseason 2017, but was cut and spent last season with the Mavericks’ G League team.
