The Arizona Wildcats (men's version) might have a chance to extend their streak of six years with a McDonalds All-American, after all.
At a McDonalds practice Monday, five-star forward Jordan Brown of Prolific Prep told Adam Zagoria that he is considering Arizona in what is still a wide-open recruitment.
"Just kind of waiting on how things go," Brown said of UA to Zagoria, who was writing for Flohoops.com. "If things get cleared up, then I'm going to think more on it."
Arizona recruited Brown earlier in his career and has now been picking it up again. Brown said Stanford has also reestablished recruiting contact with him, while he's also been considering UCLA, Nevada, St. John's, Gonzaga, Oregon, Cal and Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Wildcats have no current recruits in their 2018 recruiting class and plenty of opportunity to sell. An athletic 6-9 forward, Brown would only be competing with Ira Lee and Chase Jeter for playing time in the post next season as of now (assuming Emmanuel Akot remains more on the wing).
However, while Brown says he won't be making a quick decision while he waits to see how things play out, it's also possible that Arizona won't have much clarity for months or maybe even years. NCAA president Mark Emmert said his organization is waiting for the federal officials to finish their investigatory process before moving in.
Jahvon Quinerly will play with Brown on the McDonalds West team on Wednesday but he decommitted from the Wildcats in the wake of the federal investigation that resulted in the arrest of UA assistant coach Book Richardson.
Here's a list of the McDonalds All-Americans that Arizona has had under Sean Miller so far:
2012 Brandon Ashley, Oakland, Calif.
Grant Jerrett, Chino Hills, Calif.
2013 Aaron Gordon, San Jose, Calif.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Chester, Pa.
2014 Stanley Johnson, Fullerton, Calif.
2015 Allonzo Trier, Seattle
2016 Kobi Simmons, Alpharetta, Ga.
2017 Deandre Ayton, Nassau, Bahamas
No matter what, though, Arizona will have a representative on Wednesday: Cate Reese, the first-ever women's McDonalds player to be headed to UA.
The women's game will be shown at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and the men's game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Both will be shown on ESPN.
Some McDonalds players will be featured in the "Jamfest" that will be shown today at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
Utah AD Chris Hill is retiring.
WSU's Robert Franks is declaring for the NBA Draft, and says he plans to sign with an agent.
The WCC made some scheduling changes that might appeal to Gonzaga while it ponders if it will switch conferences.
