Arizona Wildcats safety Scottie Young Jr. was arraigned on a domestic-violence charge Thursday morning and has a case management hearing scheduled for next month.
Young was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on one misdemeanor charge of domestic violence assault with minor injury but did not appear at the hearing, court officials said.
He was spotted at football practice instead, while his attorney, Ali Farhang, appeared in court to ask that the hearing be rescheduled.
Farhang did not immediately respond to the Star’s request for comment.
The Pima County Attorney’s Office is determining if Young qualifies for diversion; if he does, his hearing will be vacated, said Pima County Justice Court spokeswoman Micci Tilton.
Young was arrested by campus police Sept. 27 after a student in one of the UA residence halls said that she’d seen him push another student into a wall, spit on and threaten the woman, according to a UA police report.
He admitted to police that the two had an argument during which he grabbed the woman’s wrist and spat on her, the report said.
The woman was also arrested, but the case against her was dismissed by prosecutors Wednesday.
The Star does not usually identify victims in alleged domestic-violence cases.
