Last week, Cienega quarterback Jamarye Joiner talked about how it would "mean a lot" if Arizona offered him a scholarship. We wrote about him here.
Friday, Joiner kicked off his career at Cienega — was expelled from Salpointe Catholic and missed the 2015 season — by rushing for 191 yards and three touchdowns in a season-opening win against Marana.
By Saturday, Joiner got his wish — he was offered a scholarship by Arizona, his first offer. Joiner is an athlete in the 2018 class primarily playing quarterback for the Bobcats.
Last week, Joiner told the Star that he had been hearing mostly from Arizona and Nebraska, and said that "it's a good feeling knowing I'm not off the radar. I'm still in some coaches minds, and it's comforting."
As for a potential Arizona offer, Joiner said at the time "it would mean a lot because it’s my hometown and it’s just, my family is down here," he said. "If I get an offer from them it’d be big because it's like, I’m still here, I’m still a Division I prospect, I’m still an elite athlete."
Joiner also said that Arizona's coaches told him to "keep working. They like my size, my speed, my agility, they like all that. They just said keep working and focusing on the classroom, and ball out."
Joiner is Arizona's first in-state offer in the 2018 class.
