The Arizona Wildcats’ long, eventful flirtation with four-star quarterback Braxton Burmeister has come to an end.
Burmeister – verbally committed to Arizona since last spring – is headed to Oregon. The Ducks, under new coach Willie Taggart, swooped in with a late offer that Burmeister apparently couldn’t refuse.
This is actually the second time Burmeister, from La Jolla (Calif.) Country Day School, has decommitted from Arizona. It happened the first time in March 2015. In a rare move in the recruiting world, Burmeister re-committed to Arizona about two months later.
Burmeister is the second four-star prospect Arizona has lost in the past six weeks, joining cornerback Greg Johnson, who decommitted shortly after cornerbacks coach Donté Williams left for Nebraska.
Burmeister’s departure leaves Arizona with only one quarterback in the 2017 class: Rhett Rodriguez, son of UA coach Rich Rodriguez. However, the Wildcats are expected to pursue another quarterback and could secure a commitment sooner than later.
