Arizona Wildcats tight end Brion Anduze forced to retire because of knee injury

Arizona Wildcats tight end Brion Anduze, who suffered a devastating knee injury in the spring of 2016, has elected to retire from football.

Anduze made the announcement on Twitter on Wednesday night, writing the following:

“After much prayer and talking with my family, I have decided to step away from the game of football due to medical reasons. My heart aches because of so much love I have for the game, but I must do what is right for my health and for my future. I’d like to thank Coach Rich Rodriguez and all of the coaches for giving me the opportunity to play at the University of Arizona, and my teammates for their support, and the fans.”

Anduze, who’s from Silverdale, Washington, redshirted in 2015 and never played in a game for the Wildcats. On the first day of practice the following spring, he tore three ligaments in his left knee. The injury required two surgeries.

As recently as December of last year, Anduze expressed hope of making a comeback. Apparently, the injury was too much to overcome.

Anduze said he will help the strength staff during the upcoming season.
