HOLLYWOOD, Calif. β One defensive lineman who was supposed to enroll at Arizona won't be coming.
Another defensive lineman who was coming, then wasn't, has changed his mind and will be joining the Wildcats after all.
Former USC defensive linemanΒ Noah Jefferson will not be joining the Wildcats. Jefferson, a former four-star recruit, had announced his intent to transfer to UA in March β he would have had to sit out the 2017 season, as per transfer rules β but ultimately it didn't work out. It is still possible, down the line, that Jefferson joins the program.
UA coach Rich Rodriguez also said Wednesday that junior college defensive linemanΒ Dereck BolesΒ will be joining the Wildcats after all and is already in Tucson, though he still has some things academically to clear up before he can play. Boles, from Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College,Β initially announced a commitment to Arizona in May andΒ flipped his commitment to South Florida in June before ultimately settling on the Wildcats again.Β
"Heβs in Tucson, Arizona. That's fake news," Rodriguez chuckled when asked about the USF commitment. "Itβs not 100 percent yet, because heβs got some academic work heβs got to finish up, but we expect Dereck Boles to be part of our program pretty soon."
Boles started his career out at Boise State β when Arizona defensive coordinatorΒ Marcel YatesΒ coached there β before he was kicked off the team after dealing with some legal issues.Β
