Weekend heat

If your kids have been counting down the days until they can play in the water at the park, they're in luck.

The city and county are opening the public splash pads in April.Β 

There are a handful to choose from in the Tucson area.

City splash pads

Both of the city's splash pads, as well as some of its pools open Saturday. They are free to use.Β 

Jane Baker Splash Pad

WhereΒ 2536 N. Castro Ave.Β Β in the Balboa Heights Park.

Rules:Β Babies and kids that are not potty trained must wear tight fitting waterproof pants.Β 

Catalina Park Splash Pad

Where: 925 N. Fourth Ave., in Catalina Park

Rules:Β Babies and kids that are not potty trained must wear tight fitting waterproof pants.Β 

Pools

Four pools are opening on Saturday, as well. The extended season runs from April to November.

Entry is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 17 and under. You can get a family summer swim pass, which is good for two adults and two children for $100.Β 

Archer Pool

Where: 1665 S. La Cholla Blvd.Β 

Info: The pool is 25 yards by 25 meters with a 1-meter diving board, water slide, shade structure and wading pool. The shallowest water in the main pool is four feet.Β 

Hours: Recreational swim hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Fort Lowell Pool

Where: 2900 N. Craycroft Road

Info: There's a diving bay with 1- and 3-meter diving boards, lap lanes and a separate wading pool. Depths range from 3-and-a-half to 12 feet.Β 

Hours: Recreational swim hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Quincie Douglas Pool

Where: 1563 E. 36th Street

Info: Beach entry, splash pad, shaded grassy area, 144-foot-long water slide and spray and splash features.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Udall Pool

Where: 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road

Info: The pool is 25 yards by 25 meters with depths ranging from 4 to 13-and-a-half feet and has a portable ramp entry. The diving area has 1- and 3-meter diving boards.Β 

Hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

County splash pads

County splash pads open April 15 and they're free to use.Β 

Brandi Fenton Splash Pad

Where:Β 3482 E. River Road

Info: Brightly colored spray arches, water geysers and other water features. There are ramadas and grass in the park. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Where: 5615 N. Sanders Road

Info: There are multiple water features, shaded benches and lots of grass.Β
