Middle school and high school students can enter Barnes and Nobles' "My Favorite Teacher" contest to win prizes for him or herself, as well as recognition and prizes for the teacher written about. We all have that one teacher that made learning fun and gave us that extra push when we needed it.

Your kids probably do too.

If so, tell your middle school or high school children about the "My Favorite Teacher" contest that Barnes & Noble is having.

They'll be able to win prizes for themselves and the teacher they write about, as well as much deserved recognition.

The details

Your middle- or high-schooler can write a poem, thank-you letter or essay about a teacher that has touched their life in a special way. It can be either a teacher they currently have, or one they have had in the past.

If they enter through the Barnes and Noble at 5130 E. Broadway, the winner and the teacher written about will both receive a $25 gift card for the store. There's an in-store celebration, recognizing both the teacher and student, and the student has the option to read their piece out loud.

The winner of each store will compete in the regional contest. There are five regions. Each of those winners will go to the national contest.

The winning entry at the national level will receive $5,000 for the teacher, $5,000 for the school he or she works for and the student will get a $500 gift card for Barnes and Noble and a new Nook device. Plus that teacher will be named the Barnes and Noble Teacher of the Year.

All entries must be in by March 1. You can mail, fax, email or drop entries off at Barnes and Noble, 5130 E. Broadway or 7325 N. La Cholla Blvd
