What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”
Last week’s recipient: Raymond Durazo.
Nominated by: Michele Mirto.
Why: For painting the offices of Step Up to Justice, a new nonprofit that provides free legal services to low-income individuals in Pima County. Durazo provided the labor and supplies to paint the 1,750-square-foot offices of the nonprofit without charge. Durazo and others spent two days painting the offices, Mirto wrote in her nomination letter. “He did not request financial compensation nor did he seek any public acknowledgment,” Mirto wrote. “Raymond quietly went about his work, sharing his expertise and time, and doing what he could to improve the community.”
