The home of Gordon Cox and family was called a palace by the craftsmen who worked on it. The home was photographed in 1965 for the Tucson Citizen home section.

The clean cut lines of the entry at the Cox home are emphasized in this early morning shot with the sun and shadow defining various planes of architectural space. Other than a few purposeful plantings, such as the pyracantha in planter boxes on each side of the arched gateway, virgin desert plants have been retained around the home.

This view, showing the hand-carved breakfast table with Mexican chairs, looks through hand carved door into the dining room. Kitchen appliances are russet brown over-sprayed with chocolate-colored enamel. Tile was designed by Mrs. Cox.

Light from the northern arched windows illuminates the formal living room. The red and white arabesque pattern of the floor contrasts with the green, L-shaped sofa. Oregon-cut ceiling beams throughout the house have been sand blasted for added textural effect.

Carpet in bright blue keynotes the master bedroom, a portion of which is shown here. Bedspread and draperies of bulky texture are patterned in blue, sage and rust. The Flea Market painting of a gaucho harding bulls picks up the blue tones and the grey around the hearth. Desk, bedstead and coffee table are hand-carved.

Mrs. Cox's collection of old spurs adorns the fireplace in the southeast corner of the galleria. The fireplace houses a barbecue and rotisserie and is faced with glossy, brilliant-colored Mexican tile.
