The Tucson Citizen photographed the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Denton in 1960. The house was designed by Josias Joesler and was a good fit for displaying the couple's many Indian art treasures.

The fireplace in the first sitting room is one of three in the house. And the colorful Indian rug in front of the couch is only one of many scattered throughout the rooms. The other half of this large living room is dominated by a grand piano.

Recessed shelves in the second sitting room hold Otomi Indian statuary â the relics were found in ancient burial mounds in Mexico â and Indian baskets. The two figures on the shelf second from the two are Baffin Island soapstone art.

The pueblo style home of the Dentons is a handsome addition to its rugged desert foothill surroundings. The Joesler-designed house is about 25 years old. All the adobes used sun its construction were made on the spot from material dug out of the foothill.

Jack Wise presented this abstract painting to the Dentons. The colors he chose for it â red, green, white, black and brown â accent the Mexican and Indian accessories in the second sitting room.

Colorful describes the Dentons' dining room. The recessed shelves at the head of the plank table display Pueblo Indian baskets and bowls. The abstract bullfighter was painted by a Canadian; the Mexican street scene on the other wall by a Filipino. On the table is a Cochiti Indian bread-making bowl.

A pueblo style fireplace takes up one corner of the second sitting room of the Denton home. The wooden figure standing on the hearth was sculpted from mesquite. It represents a Conchero Indian dancer. The primitive figure of a warrior on the mantle is a pre-Columbian piece. Their companion hanging on the wall, a Mexican Indian ceremonial mask, was carved from an armadillo shell.
