If you love going to the farmers market but also want something that appeals to the kids, you can go to First Friday Family Fundays at the Farmers Market (try saying that five times fast) on Friday, June 3, at Trail Dust Town.
The Heirloom Farmers Market takes place every Friday at Trail Dust Town, but the first Friday of every month through August is geared toward families with young children.
You’ll get the traditional farmers market experience with more than 20 local food vendors with fresh fruit and veggies, salsa, coffee, eggs and more. Plus, the kids can get unlimited access to the carnival rides in Trail Dust Town, which includes gold panning (the Ferris wheel is currently down), carousel and train with a $4 wristband.
Vendors include Red’s Roasters, Poco Loco Salsa, San Raphael Grass Fed Beef, Larry’s Garden, Southwest Bee Supply, Richcrest Farms and others.

Other activities include the “spin the wheel” game where kids can win a free wrist band and small toys, live music and face painting.
Some of the Trail Dust Town gift shops will also be open.
And the farmers market at Trail Dust Town is now offering the Double Your Dollars program, for families with a SNAP/EBT card, in which participants can get $20 worth of fruits and vegetables for free when they spend $20. Go online to heirloomfm.org for more information.
First Friday Family Fundays started last summer as a way to appeal to families who are home during the week, says Zoe Anderson, marketing coordinator of Heirloom Farmers Markets.
“Working with Trail Dust Town, we realized they have a wonderful environment for families and kids to enjoy and so combining the farmers market with that, we came up with First Friday Family Fundays,” says Nick Szumowski, market manager.
It was a success, especially in July since many people had the whole weekend off for Independence Day.
“It was awesome,” Anderson says. “We saw full families coming in so it was really nice to see that there is an interest in bringing families into these situations to learn more about the farms and vendors.”
