Voters across southern Arizona today will choose the person to represent the state's 7th Congressional District for the next 15 months.

The seat has been vacant since March, when U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva died after holding the post for more than two decades.

His daughter, a Democrat and former Pima County Supervisor Adelita Grijalva, and Republican business owner Daniel Butierez are vying for the seat that covers an area that stretches along the border from Tucson to Yuma and into parts of Maricopa County. Two third-party candidates also are on the ballot.

Butierez lost to Raúl Grijalva in 2024 in the heavily Democratic district, but was able to collect about a third of the vote.

While the election is mostly mail-in, several voting sites are open today.

Voters can find personalized election information on Pima County's Voter Dashboard, https://www.recorder.pima.gov/Voter_dashboard_login.

There's also information at www.pima.vote, which combines voting information from the county recorder’s office and the elections department. Voters can also find a map and links to wait times at specific voting centers.

All 59 voting centers in Pima County will be open today until 7 p.m.

The first election results are expected to be released about 8 p.m.
