Can you feel the excitement? Theater is slowly coming out of its summer hibernation — though a few companies never go into hiding during our hot months. And for that we are grateful. Here’s what’s up through Aug. 23.

Dinners With Augie — Temple of Music And Art’s Cabaret Theater, 330 S. Scott Ave. Scott Charles’ one-act, three-character play has its light moments. But it’s a serious subject: Life, death, and what it all means. Arthur is an elderly man nearing the end of his life while keeping the memory of his much-loved late wife alive. Facing mortality often forces a reflection on life, and Augie does that with the help of his nurse and doctor. The cast in this Scott Charles Productions’ play is made up of Jeff Webster, Chad Eggen and Amy Scully; Regina Ford directs.

Late Nite Catechism — Fox Tucson Theatre, 17 W. Congress St. Sister has a few lessons for us. But beware: Memories from a childhood in Catholic schools are sure to be awakened. Same Time, Next Year — Live Theatre Workshop, 5317 E. Speedway. LTW’s production underscores the humor and the poignancy of this play about a 25-year love affair between two people, married to others, who rendezvous once a year. The Incredible Spider Guy — The Gaslight Theatre, 7010 E. Broadway. Billy is still climbing the walls over at The Gaslight, thanks to that bite from a spider that has been genetically altered. Triumph of Love — Roadrunner Theater, 8892 E. Tanque Verde Road. You don’t want to miss this delightful chamber musical about a princess who falls in love with a man who doesn’t know she exists and the lengths she will go to see that love triumphs.
