- Diana Brettrager: Brettrager, of Berwick Himes Insurance Services, has been named the 2016 Advisor of the Year. The honor is from the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.
- SARSEF: The Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation has reached the semifinal stage of the 2017 Drucker Prize. Only 50 organizations were selected to advance. The Drucker Prize is given to an organization that demonstrates Druckerβs βchange that creates a new dimension of performance.β The judges look for programs that are highly effective and have made a difference in the lives of the people they serve, as well as for those organizations that demonstrate a capacity to further leverage the discipline of innovation. The winner of the $100,000 Drucker Prize will be announced on Sept. 29.
- Banner β University Medical Center Tucson: Banner-UMC has been ranked among the best hospitals in the nation for cancer, geriatrics, gynecology and pulmonary care in U.S. News & World Reportβs 2017-18 Best Hospitalsβ ratings, and as βhigh performingβ in four other medical specialties β diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, nephrology (kidney disease), and neurology and neurosurgery. The publication also rated Banner-UMC as the best hospital in Southeastern Arizona and the No. 2 hospital in Arizona, tied with Banner β University Medical Center Phoenix, its sister hospital. The Tucson academic medical center was ranked 38th in the medical specialty of gynecology, 42nd in pulmonology, 46th in geriatrics and 48th in cancer out of approximately 4,500 hospitals surveyed across the nation.
- Pima Animal Care Center: The Petco Foundation honored PACC with a $5,000 award to develop a program matching at-risk pets with foster parents who live in settings like senior centers. The Petco Foundation and Jackson Galaxy Foundation created the Innovation Showdown competition to encourage ideas that will change the landscape of animal welfare. From the 200 ideas received, PACC was among the eight runner-ups selected to receive $5,000 investments. PACCβs proposal involves expanding the fostering partnership it began in October 2016 with residents and staff from Catalina Springs Memory Care, which involved bottle-feeding three orphaned kittens, into a wider initiative that engages other groups and serves more pets in need.
