named Star interim editor

The Arizona Daily Star named Hipolito R. Corella interim editor.

In his new post, Corella will oversee newsroom operations during a national search to replace longtime editor Bobbie Jo Buel, who retired Friday.

Corella, 47, a native Tucsonan and University of Arizona graduate, has been at the Star since 1991. He has held several reporter and editor positions, including most recently, senior editor for daily news.

to be guided by McKisson

The Arizona Daily Star promoted Irene McKisson to team leader of a new product for young Tucsonans.

McKisson’s previous position was social media and audience engagement editor.

She came to the Star’s sports department in 2003 where she was a designer, copy editor and night editor. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona’s School of Journalism.

Homicide Survivors names

Helms executive director

Vanessa Helms joined Homicide Survivors Inc. as executive director.

Over the past 12 years, Helms worked at the Pima County Attorney’s Office in the Victim Services Division.

She has worked as a crisis advocate and coordinator of programs including a crisis volunteer program, a rural office expansion and the Victim Compensation Program for Pima County. Helms is a trainer for victim advocates statewide and nationally, for the Arizona Victim Assistance Academy and the National Office for Victim Assistance.

She has a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Arizona and a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Phoenix.

Heart researcher Gregorio

adds vice dean to UA duties

Carol Gregorio was appointed vice dean for innovation and development at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson.

She will continue as head of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and as director of the Sarver Molecular Cardiovascular Research Program.

Gregorio, a leader in heart muscle research, joined the UA College of Medicine faculty in 1996.

She was appointed interim department head in 2008 and named permanent head in 2009. She has served as co-director of the UA Sarver Heart Center since 2007 and as the interim head of the Sarver Heart Center from 2013 to 2014.

She also is a member of the UA Bio5 Institute.

Kranz joins design team

at Interior Expressions

Interior Expressions Design Showroom in Oro Valley added Shawn Kranz to its design team.

Kranz brings more than 10 years of interior design experience, including at California Design / Studio C and Bassett Furniture.
