The Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation was the top winner at the inaugural Fast Pitch Tucson event.
Seven nonprofits had three minutes to pitch their organization before a live audience and a group of judges.
The foundation — which organizes the Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Fair and participates in educational outreach — won the $10,000 main prize and one of two $5,000 Greatergood.org Innovation awards.
Other winners included Make Way for Books, which won the $7,500 Cox Charities Award; Amistad y Salud, which received the $2,500 Judges Award and the second $5,000 Greatergood.org Innovation Award; and Teen Outreach Pregnancy Services, which won the $2,500 Audience Choice Award.
Along with the prize money, audience members donated more than $20,000 for Fast pitch participants, with an additional $7,500 matched by Cox Charities. In total, participants shared in more than $60,000 in grants and donations.
