A Nordstrom Rack store is coming to the city’s east side.

The discount division of the Nordstrom department stores will open its second Tucson location with 25,000 square feet of shopping space at Wilmot Plaza, company officials were expected to announce today.

Its first Tucson shop opened in 2011 on the southeast corner of Oracle and Wetmore roads.

“This is such a terrific addition to the retail district in Ward 2,” Tucson Councilman Paul Cunningham said. “We are proud to partner with Bourn Development in the revitalization of Wilmot Plaza and welcome the second Nordstrom Rack store to Tucson.”

A $221,580 permit to pour the foundation for the store has been issued. The general contractor is Barker Morrissey.

Bourn Cos. LLC bought Wilmot Plaza, on the corner of Wilmot Road and Broadway, in 2013 and has poured nearly $30 million into renovations.

Dick’s Sporting Goods now anchors the plaza and is expected to open next month.

Burger King has built an upgraded store at the plaza, and TJ Maxx will get a new facade.

Earlier this year, crews tore down the south end of the center where R&S Mattress, Christie’s Appliance and Brawley’s Restaurant once stood.

A standalone, 14,000-square-foot building is under construction there, but the identity of the tenant or tenants remains a mystery, as Bourn is still negotiating with prospective retailers.
