• United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona: Has achieved certification by Points of Light, an organization dedicated to volunteer service. The certification underscores the United Way’s effectiveness at leveraging the time and talents of volunteers and is expected to generate more volunteer assistance in carrying out its mission.
  • Southern Arizona Home Builders Association: SAHBA announced its annual awards for 2016. Pulte Group was named production homebuilder of the year. The award for custom homebuilder of the year went to TRS Custom Builders Inc.. Re-Bath of Tucson was named remodeler of the year. The award for trade partner of the year went to Arizona Wholesale Supply Co. A&E Recycled Granite was the associate member firm of the year (small business). The corporate associate member firm of the year was Title Security Agency. Joe McMahon of Pro-Copy Office Solutions was honored as individual member of the year. Sales manager of the year was Alia Jones of KB Home. Sales professional of the year was Mary Carranza of Maracay Homes.
  • University of Arizona: The Merck Foundation awarded the UA a $1.99 million grant to expand access to high-quality cancer care for Latinos and other underserved populations in Southern Arizona. The grant will support programs aimed at improving timely access to cancer care through improved collaboration between primary-care physicians and cancer specialists, better engagement with patients and increased oncology communication training for UA medical students and other trainees in the health sciences. Funding also will enhance access to culturally appropriate, evidence-based psychosocial care for underserved cancer patients and their families.
  • Tank’s Green Stuff: The local composting company was honored by the United States Composting Council for excellence in its operations, quality of product, and market growth. Tank’s Green Stuff was named composter of the year, selected among 239 companies located in the United States and Canada who are members of the United States Composting Council.
  • Tucson Medical Center: The Wound Care Center has been honored with the Center of Distinction award by Healogics, a wound care management company that works with 800 hospitals across the nation. TMC Wound Care Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, including patient satisfaction higher than 92 percent, and a wound healing rate of at least 91 percent in fewer than 31 median days. The Center joins 334 across the country in achieving this honor in 2017.
