Ume Tea is opening their first Tucson location on Saturday, where customers can get a variety of milk and fruit teas.

It’s not every day you see bunnies hanging out in front of the University of Arizona.

Or enjoying a Sonoran dog.

Or taking a hike in Saguaro National Park.

But in the former Miss Dessert building, you can see several bunnies participating in these classic Tucson activities. The best part — you can enjoy an Oreo crème brûlée boba tea while you take in all the cuteness.

Ume Tea has made its way to Tucson, bringing along bright pink décor, a giant bunny mural and delicious drinks that come with a surprise plushie inside.

Ume Tea first opened in California in 2019. Wanting to expand their brand to Arizona, they opened their signature pink café in Mesa in June. With the University of Arizona students coming back to school, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to bring their cutesy aesthetic down to Tucson. The grand opening of the Tucson location is set for Saturday, Aug. 24.

“We definitely see a lot of potential in Arizona and Tucson,” owner Harry Yu said.

Over the past four months, Yu and his crew have transformed the space, located at 1800 E. Fort Lowell Road., into a pink wonderland. Right when you walk in, you are instantly greeted by a giant, fluffy bunny enjoying boba tea.

As you look around, you are instantly drawn to the bunny mural that covers one of the walls, depicting multiple bunnies at different local landmarks. Even the walls, tables, counters and booths are all a shade of bubblegum pink.

“Several people have walked in,” Yu said. “When they walk by and see the all-pink inside, they stop and have to see what's going on here.”

To make sure their drinks taste as good as the place looks, Yu said they use real fruit to make their teas. You can choose from a variety of milk teas, fruit teas and slushies.

“You can actually see the fruit in there and you can taste it. It's all fresh,” Yu said.

Jasmine floral, white peach oolong, brown sugar boba and mochi, strawberry matcha and Oreo crème brûlée are just a few of the milk tea flavors they offer.

If fruit tea is more your thing, Ume Tea has passion fruit and watermelon green tea, lychee and watermelon green tea and grape green tea with tea jelly.

Yu said they also carry drinks that incorporate yumberry flavor, which he said is not often found here. Yumberry is a berry from China that has a flavor similar to cranberries.

Ume Tea even has popcorn chicken if you’re craving something more than just a drink.

You may be asking yourself: can things get any cuter? The answer is yes.

Ume Tea also has drinks with mystery plushies tucked inside. Here's how it works: you can get your drink in a special cup that has an opening in the bottom. When you open it, you’ll find a surprise plushie hiding inside.

Ume Tea will be hosting their grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 24, celebrating their new location with different deals all weekend long. On Saturday, all the drinks except for the surprise cups will be $2.99 and on Sunday, you can buy one drink and get another for free.
