Marana School District hosts job fair Saturday

The Marana Unified School District is hosting a job fair on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mountain View High School gymnasium, 3901 W. Linda Vista Blvd.

The district is seeking teachers, substitutes and aides, and employees in the health office, food service, transportation, support and other areas. Applicants can bring résumés, complete applications and participate in on-site interviews.

Cienega, UHS students

to compete in Envirothon

Students from University and Cienega high schools will compete in the Arizona Envirothon on April 20 and 21.

Students will demonstrate their mastery of environmental science principles through field events and presentations. This year’s focus is “Western Rangeland Management: Balancing Diverse Views.”

Each team is comprised of five members. In all, 14 teams from eight Arizona high schools are participating.

The winning team will represent Arizona at the NCF Envirothon, competing for scholarships and prizes in July.

Las Artes now enrolling

Two Pima County programs that help at-risk students graduate from high school are accepting applications for entry into sessions starting in April.

Pima Vocational High School is accepting students ages 16 to 21 for the program session that begins April 24.

Interested students must attend a two-day orientation on April 19 and 20 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. each day, at PVHS’s south campus, 175 W. Irvington Road. Call 724-9470 to reserve a spot.

Las Artes Arts & Education Center is accepting students for the GED program session that begins April 30.

The program pays students a weekly incentive to offset the cost of transportation, clothing and school supplies. New student orientation will be held April 25 from 8 a.m. to noon at the school, 23 W. 27th St., in South Tucson.

Prospective students, ages 17 to 22, must complete an application and take a placement test before attending orientation. The test can be taken at the school, Monday through Thursday, beginning at 8:15 a.m.

Marana athletic director earns Sonora Region honor

The Arizona Interscholastic Association has selected Marana High School’s Sarah Whaley as the 2017-18 Arizona Interscholastic Association 5A Sonoran Region Athletic Director of the Year.

Marana High School Principal David Mandel said since taking over as athletic director just over two years ago, Whaley “has helped to elevate the expectations of coaches, support high-quality coaches and programs, and make sound financial decisions to make sure that we are able to provide exceptional experiences for the athletes.”
