Tucson Symphony Orchestra will open its 2014-15 Just for Kids concert series Saturday much as it did last year โ with a mini-festival.
The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with the first of two performances of โRubato the Rattlesnakeโ featuring the TSO Brass Quintet at the Tucson Symphony Center, 2175 N. Sixth Ave., just south of East Grant Road. Then itโs outside for a plethora of family-friendly activities including:
- Food trucks You Sly Dog (signature and original takes on hot dogs) and DC Jumbie (Latin Caribbean fusion) serving food.
- Face-painting for the kids.
- Balloon Man Fudd and Magic Mr. B entertain the audience.
- Photo ops with a life-size cutout of Mickey Mouse to get you in the mood for the orchestraโs Disney โFantasia Live in Concertโ performances Nov. 29 and 30 at Tucson Music Hall.
- Opportunities for the kids to win toys, candy and toy musical instruments.
Saturdayโs festival runs until 1 p.m. โRubato the Rattlesnake,โ inspired by the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, repeats at 11:15 a.m. Itโs the story of a snake that lost its rattle and calls on the audience to help him find it. The piece was created by TSO trumpet player Elizabeth Bright and it incorporates popular pieces of the brass repertoire.
Admission is a suggested $3-per-person donation.
