As part of its production of the first-ever mariachi opera, Arizona Opera is hosting Hispanic Heritage Festival, a week of community events and discussions beginning Monday.

Events are free of charge and open to the public with the exception of the Friday night student dress rehearsal of “Cruzar la Cara de la Luna.”

The schedule:

  • 6 p.m. Monday, “The Borders of Understanding.” Tucson Museum of Art, 140 N. Main Ave.
  • 6 p.m. Tuesday, “Mariachi: The Passion and Pulse of A People.” Leo Rich Theatre, 260 S. Church Ave.
  • 6 p.m. Wednesday, “Spanish Music Up Close.” Leo Rich.
  • 6 p.m. Thursday, “The Cultural Exchange.” Leo Rich.
  • 7 p.m. Friday, Student Night at the Opera, open to Tucson-area students up to grade 12. It’s the final dress rehearsal for next weekend’s performances. Tucson Music Hall.
