The folks at Arizona Opera tapped some of the talent in their upcoming productions to plug the 2015-16 season.
The company released a fun little video of the stars presumably dropping a mic — that might be a play on hip-hop music — to let us know that the new season is full of spunk and attitude. It's also a balancing act of warhorse repertoire and brave frontiers.
Arizona Opera this season will mount the U.S. premiere of Emmerich Kálmán’s "Arizona Lady" — it kicks off the 2015-16 season and it opens in Tucson (Oct. 10-11) before going to Phoenix — as part of its Arizona Bold initiative. The opera launched it last year with the first mariachi opera,"Cruzar la Cara de la Luna (To Cross the Face of the Moon)" and will continue it this season with the late Mexican composer Daniel Catán's "Florencia en el Amazonas" in November.
Next season, the opera will mount its first-ever world premiere, Craig Bohmler and Steven Mark Kohn's "Riders of the Purple Sage," based on Zane Grey's bestselling novel.
This season also includes fan favorites Bizet's "Carmen" in January and Mozart's "Don Giovanni" in March. Click here for tickets.
