Arizona Opera is nearly at the halfway mark in its 50 for 500 challenge.
The company has to raise another $230,000 to cash in on an anonymous donor's pledge of giving it $100,000.
But Arizona Opera also has to get donations from another 34 states before it can meet the challenge of getting pledges from all 50 United States. It's gotten gifts from 16 so far and the District of Columbia, opera officials said Sunday.
An anonymous donor from Tucson pledged to give the company $100,000 if it can raise another $400,000 that includes pledges from all 50 states. It has until June 30.
