Harkins offers $5 movies through holiday weekend

You have to love it when someone/something celebrates a birthday/anniversary and they give you the gift.

That’s what Harkins Theatres is doing this holiday weekend as it celebrates 84 years since founder and cineplex innovator Dwight “Red” Harkins opened his first movie house in Tempe in 1933.

Throughout the four-day Labor Day weekend Friday, Sept. 1, through Monday, Sept. 4, movie tickets at Harkins theaters are $5 for every movie, every ticket. That’s roughly half of what the chain normally charges, except at its Harkins Arizona Pavilions 12 in Marana. That location lowered its ticket price to $5 more than a year ago and never increased it.

In addition to Arizona Pavilions 12, 5755 W. Arizona Pavilions Drive off Interstate 10 and North Cortaro Road, Harkins operates Tucson Spectrum 18, 5455 S. Calle Santa Cruz off Interstate 19 and West Irvington Road on Tucson’s south side.

With 30 locations in five states including in Texas and Colorado, Harkins is the fifth largest theater chain in North America.
