The Tucson Symphony Orchestra Chorus will help the orchestra close out its 89th season in April with Beethoven's magnificent Ninth Symphony and its resounding "Ode to Joy."
To do that wonderful music justice requires a pretty terrific choir. And a pretty terrific choir needs some pretty amazing voices.
On Jan. 27, the choir, now in its 16th season under founding director Bruce Chamberlain, will hold auditions to find those voices.
The TSO Chorus this season was featured in Handel's "Messiah" and "The Magic of Christmas" during the holidays. This weekend, it takes a lead role in Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony No. 3 “Kaddish” as part of the Tucson Desert Song Festival's "Bernstein at 100."
Here's the 411 on the auditions:
• Email auditions@tucsonsymphony.org to schedule an audition time.
• Singers should have basic musicianship and be able to adapt to various repertoire.
• Prepare two choral excerpts downloaded from here and a solo piece from the art song or oratorio repertoire. An accompanist will be provided.
• Rehearsals will be at the Tucson Symphony Center, 2175 N. Sixth Ave., on Monday evenings throughout the season beginning January 29.
