Arizona Friends of Chamber Music opens its second annual summer concert series on Wednesday, June 13, with a little Beethoven and Lauren Roth.

OK, actually, it’s all Beethoven, a trio of his works for violin and piano to launch Arizona Friends’ multiyear overview of Beethoven violin sonatas leading up to the 250th anniversary of the German composer’s birth (Dec. 17, 1770).

Roth, the popular Tucson Symphony Orchestra concertmaster, teams up with University of Arizona piano prof/pianist John Milbauer to perform Beethoven’s β€œRomance” No. 1 in G major; Violin Sonata No. 5 in F major and No. 10 in G major.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holsclaw Hall, 1017 N. Olive Road at the University of Arizona’s Fred Fox School of Music. Tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for students through arizonachambermusic.org or at the door.

This is the second summer that Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, which hosts the popular Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival in March, has put on a monthly concert series. Other performances include the July 18 recital from TSO principal horn Johanna Lundy, who’s bringing some friends along to explore the challenges and joys of her instrument; and the husband-and-wife pianists pairing of Gary Steigerwalt and Dana Muller on Aug. 22 for a concert of piano works for four hands including Tucson composer Daniel Asia’s β€œIris.”
