Two vehicles crashed into the same building within 24 hours on Aviation Parkway on Tucson’s south side, police say.

The first crash at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday involved an eastbound Dodge Charger being driven at a high speed with two passengers who were thrown from the car due to the impact, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The Charger failed to maintain control at a curve and crashed into a building in the 3700 block of East Technical Drive, hitting concrete barriers, several signs and a light pole on the way.

A passenger, 26-year-old Nicole Gutierrez, died. The driver of the Charger, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The second crash later that day in the industrial area was a single-vehicle collision with no injuries, said Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Adam Schoonover.

Despite two vehicles separately crashing into the same building, Schoonover said the intersection sees as many collisions as any other in town. The speed and driving behaviors of the individuals involved are key in these cases, he said.
