Laughs roll off the stage and blanket the audience at Live Theatre Workshop’s β€œThe Savannah Sipping Society.”

The comedy is about four later-in-life women who meet, bond and figure things out together. All the while sipping alcohol, of course.

Bringing these outrageous one-line-a-minute characters to life are some of Tucson’s finer talents.

Carrie Hill emerges after a seven-year hiatus from stage work and plays Randa, high-strung and recently fired from her job as an architect.

Joanne Mack Roberston is the widowed Dot, mild-mannered until she comes out of her shell.

Rhonda Hallquist is the tough-as-nails Marlafaye, still stinging from the affair her husband (now ex) had with a dental hygienist half his age.

And finally Annette Hillman gives full life to Jinx, who owns a beauty bar but thinks being a life coach might suit her better. Advising people on makeup is just a step away from advising people on what to do with their lives, right?

Sabian Trout directs this quartet with an eye toward humor and seamlessness.

This piece of cotton candy was created by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, a trio of writers who have vast experience in the world of comedy TV and playwriting.

You can sense the strain for a laugh and sit-com vibe in this script. Each woman faces a crisis in her life and that, too, feels strained.

But no matter β€” these actresses are talented and each one of them knows how to deliver a line designed to make you guffaw. And sometimes that’s enough.

β€œThe Savannah Sipping Society” continues through Nov. 12 at 3322 E. Fort Lowell Road.

Tickets are $18-$23 at 520-327-4242 or livetheatreworkshop.org. The play runs about two hours with one intermission.
