Get ready for fall, Tucson style.
The Presidio San Agustin del Tucson Museum is hosting workshops to help you prepare for the All Souls Procession, teach you how to cook desert foods, craft your own pottery and more.
Up first on Sept. 5, attendees will learn a quick way to juice prickly pear fruit from cookbook author Carolyn Niethammer. Sheโll also share other ways prickly pear fruit can be used that go beyond just jelly. The workshop, from 9 to 11 a.m., is $45.
Ahead of Dia de Los Muertos and the All Souls Procession, you can make paper flowers and crowns. Youโll also learn about the history of ofrendas at the Oct. 19 workshop, from 10 to 11:30 am. The cost is $25.
If youโre looking for a piece of home dรฉcor to impress holiday guests, craft a small clay vessel with the help of Tohono Oโodham potter Kathleen Vance, who digs and processes the white clay that will be used. The two-hour class on Oct. 26 starts at 10 a.m. and costs $65.
Everyone loves a handmade gift. Thatโs where the museumโs soap-making class comes in. On Nov. 16, participants will learn the basics of making cold-process soap and how to put desert botanicals and clays in it. Youโll take home 1 pound of soap, plus a soap mold and recipes so you can make more at home. The cost is $75 for the class, which runs 10 a.m. to noon.
All of the classes require pre-registration through tucsonpresidio.com/calendars. Click on the โworkshopsโ box, then click โfilter.โ
