Awam Tibetan Buddhist Institute

Pielstick hasnโ€™t seen a lot of collaboration between the various Buddhist groups in town, though he and others are making efforts to change that.

A revered Buddhist teacher will spend a week at the Awam Tibetan Buddhist Institute, 3400 E. Speedway.

Yogi Lama Gursam spends multiple months of the year on retreats and leads pilgrimages to holy spots in India and Nepal. He also teaches around the world. The Buddhist teacher has taught in Tucson several times about the practical application of dharma, or Buddhist teachings, said Jane Stanley, a volunteer for the institute.

Lama Gursam will speak 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 through Friday, June 10 at the institute. On Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12, the teacher will present on Atisha's Seven-Point Mind Training 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lovingkindness and compassion are key principles.

The cost to attend is $20 Tuesday, $25 Wednesday, $25 Thursday, $20 Friday, $40 Saturday and $40 Sunday.
