Perfect latkes

The secret to perfect latkes lies in the binding agent: in this case, potato starch.

Congregation Or Chadash, 3939 N. Alvernon Way, will host a Mini Jewish Food Festival, 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21.

Food includes latkes, pickles, blintzes and New York and Chicago style hot dogs, among other dishes.

Visitors can make challah and hummus.

Then, following 6:30 p.m. services on Friday, Aug. 26, the congregation will serve ice cream, including variations made with goat cheese and avocado.
