To recognize the one-year anniversary of the release of the pope's encyclical on the environment, the Global Catholic Climate Movement is encouraging communities to host local events celebrating the document.
"Laudato Si' Week" started Sunday, June 12 and will conclude Sunday, June 19. The pope released the document Laudato Si': On Care for our Common Home on June 18, 2015.
The week's events in Tucson continue Wednesday, June 15 with a showing of the film "Time to Choose" 7:30 p.m. at The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway. While not a sponsored part of the week, the film about climate change corresponds with the pope's encyclical. General admission is $9.50.
From 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, Catholic Climate Ambassador Katie Hirschboeck will present "The Francis Effect: How the views of Americans shifted after the release of the pope's encyclical and visit to the U.S." A discussion follows the talk, hosted at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish, 1800 S. Kolb Road.
