Each year, "Marcha por Jesus Tucson" culminates in a massive church picnic.

The walk put on by the Asociación Evangelica Pastoral de Tucson Arizona has attracted more than 1,500 participants in past years, said Dave Drum, who helped promote the event and has attended for years.

Around 40 congregations — most of them Hispanic — are expected to make the walk, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 at South Sixth Avenue and West 44th Street. It ends at Rudy Garcia Park with a picnic and music.

"They'll have signs and there will be some churches bringing groups of dancers and there will be singing," Drum said. "But they have always made sure that the focus is on Jesus, not a political cause."
