A six week course "Great Debates in Jewish History" by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute will kick off with a lecture on the Dead Sea Scrolls by Rabbi Yehuda Ceitlin of Chabad Tucson and A.J. Timothy Jull with the University of Arizona's Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Laboratory 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1.

In recognition of the 70th anniversary of the discovery of the scrolls along the shores of the Dead Sea, Ceitlin will compare the scrolls to the text of the Bible, and Jull will discuss the research he did in the 90s at the UA to carbon-date the scrolls, according to press materials.

Registering for the six weeks of courses at the Tucson Jewish Community Center, 3800 E. River Road, costs $99. Other courses will explore additional topics.
