Celebrate Hanukkah at the club. 🕎

No, seriously.

Because the second night of Hanukkah shares a date with Christmas, Chabad Tucson will celebrate with a Dec. 25 tradition.

Chinese food.

"Jews tend to eat Chinese food on Dec. 25 because Asian restaurants are the only ones open on that night," says Rabbi Yehuda Ceitlin of Chabad Tucson. "It started in New York City, that tradition."

On Sunday, Dec. 25 this year, Darryl Wong, the owner and chef of the Lotus Garden, will cater a kosher Chinese dinner at Club XS on 5851 E. Speedway.

Keya Tehrani, the owner of the club, is also a Chabad Tucson congregant.

The evening will include a lighting of a larger menorah, along with personal candles and menorahs available for individuals.

That's right. Chinese Hannukah dinner by candlelight in the club.

Rogers Park, a Jewish folk rock band out of Chicago, will perform during the meal.

About 200 diners are expected, Ceitlin says. Hanukkah begins the evening of Saturday, Dec. 24 and ends Sunday, Jan. 1.

"We'll be adding Jewish light to a location which generally has many flashing lights of a different kind..." Ceitlin says. "At this time in the world, we could all use a bit more light."
