Mr. and Mrs. James R. Blake designed a home that would serve the needs of their active youngsters and also their desire to entertain. The home was built in Tucson Country Club Estates. These photos appeared in the Tucson Citizen home section June 17, 1961.

Bright yellow wrought iron chairs line the curved white breakfast bar which separates the family room from the kitchen. Cupboards open from both the kitchen and family room sides. Curtains (far right) soften light from the glass doors that open to the back terraced patio.

St. Francis of Assisi keeps a solitary vigil in the front patio at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Blake in Tucson Country Club Estates. Since the picture was taken, the Blakes have added a small, rectangular shaped fish pond which their four children have stocked with guppies. One can enter the patio either from the passageway shown or through the living room. A double carport is behind the wall.

Flounces of the canopies above the twin beds in Jamie's room repeat the lavender of the walls as well as the lavender in the lavender, purple and deep blue floral print bedspreads. The furniture has a bone finish.

A hand-carved crucifix made near Mexico City hangs over the king-sized bed in the master suite. The small writing desk has a bone finish. The doors to the left of the room open to the patio. The bedspread is rust color, walls a very delicate turquoise.

Refrigerator, cupboard and work counter space are on the kitchen side of the breakfast bar. In the activities room, the bold lines and colors of a tissue paper painting from Guaymas, Son., Mexico, attract the eye. The room also has an off-white sofa flanked by maple step tables with brass lamps.

A drop crystal chandelier can be pulled along a bar attached to the ceiling and centered over the opened dining table. The small patio with egg-crate ramada is a favorite place to relax at the end of the day.
