A person was killed after being struck by a train Friday morning, on the northwest side of town, authorities said.

At about 8:30, Pima County Sheriff's deputies responded to the railroad crossing on West Ruthrauff Road, east of I-10, to reports of a person who had been hit by a train, said sheriff's department spokesman, Deputy Ira Sewell.

The railroad crossing was closed for almost three hours, while officials cleared and investigated the scene.
