Police are asking the public for help in identifying this woman who is wanted in connection to an assault and carjacking. Authorities released the photo Sept. 18, 2017 shortly after 3 p.m.

Tucson police are asking the public for help in identifying a woman captured on a surveillance camera who is wanted in connection to an assault and carjacking in midtown.

The crime occurred July 30, police said.

A woman climbed into a vehicle on the city's north side at a Walmart Neighborhood Market parking lot at East Grant and North Alvernon Way, according to a Tucson Police Department Facebook post Monday, Sept. 18.

The woman forced the driver to take her to a grocery store in midtown near East Speedway and North Swan Road, police said. Once in the grocery store parking lot, the woman assaulted the driver who was able to escape. The driver suffered minor injuries, police said.

The assailant then drove off in the victim's vehicle, which has been located by police. Authorities did not release where the vehicle was found.

Police released a photo of the assailant who is described as white and is in her 30s. She is medium to heavy set and may have recently injured her left foot.

Investigators ask if anyone knows the woman or has information about her whereabouts, to call 88-crime, an anonymous tipster hotline.

If anyone sees the woman, do not approach her and call 911 immediately, police said.
