Tucson police are searching for the suspect in a Monday night sexual assault and carjacking, during which the suspect stole a woman's car with her 3-year-old son inside, authorities said.

Tucson police detectives are looking for a man wanted in connection with a Monday night sexual assault and kidnapping, during which the suspect took a woman's car with her 3-year-old son inside.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., a woman was working at a business in the 1600 block of North Swan Road and preparing to leave for the night with her 3-year-old son. She buckled her child into the car seat in the back of her car and went back into the building to retrieve something she left behind, when a man holding brass knuckles followed her inside, said St. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

The man threatened to hurt the victim if she didn't follow his directions, and forced her into an office, where he sexually assaulted her, Dugan said.

He demanded her car keys and forced her into the car before driving away from the business. When they were stopped at a red light at East Grant Road and North Mountain Avenue, a Tucson Fire Department vehicle approached with its emergency lights on, and the victim jumped out of the car and flagged down TFD employees for help, Dugan said.

The suspect fled westbound in the car with the child still inside, and TPD detectives with the sexual assault unit and sex offender registration and tracking unit responded to the scene, issuing an Amber Alert shortly after 9 p.m., Dugan said.

The car was located at about 1 a.m., in the 4400 block of East Water Street, with the child asleep and unharmed in the backseat.

Police are searching for the suspect, who is described as being between 40 and 50-years-old, standing 6'0" tall with a strong build and acne scars on his face. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, an anonymous tipster hotline.
