A 44-year-old woman died last week from injuries sustained during a car crash earlier this month on Tucson's north side.

At about 8 p.m. on Jan. 5, officers were called to the intersection of North First Avenue and East Prince Road for reports of a serious injury crash involving a pedestrian, Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman, wrote in a news release.

Officers found a female pedestrian in the roadway and the Tucson Fire Department immediately transported her to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Dugan said.

TPD traffic detectives took over the investigation and learned that the driver of a 2006 silver Honda Accord was traveling southbound in the median lane of First Avenue at about 35 mph. When the driver entered the intersection at Prince on a green light, the pedestrian ran eastbound across First Avenue, against the red light. The driver was unable to stop in time and struck the woman, Dugan said.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Speed was not a factor in the crash and no arrests or citations have been issued. Detecties are still investigating the crash, and more details will be released when they become available, Dugan said.

The pedestrian succumbed to her injuries on Jan. 10, while she was still in the hospital. She's been identified as Christina Kensinger.

This is the second fatal pedestrian crash in 2018. There were no pedestrian fatalities reported during the same period of time in 2017, according to Tucson police.
