A woman who was hit by a car in midtown earlier this month died Feb. 21 from her injuries, police said.

Cheri Hill, 31, died at Banner-University Medical Center where she was taken with life-threatening injuries on Feb. 14, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.

Two weeks ago shortly after 10 p.m., officers and Tucson Fire Department paramedics responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian on East 22nd Street and South Swan Road.

Paramedics found a woman, later identified as Hill, in the road and began treating her before taking her to Banner-UMC, said Bay.

Traffic detectives learned that the driver of a red 2004 Buick Century was headed east on 22nd approaching Swan on a green light. Hill began to quickly walk in the crosswalk against the light when she was struck by the car, said Bay.

Detectives said that neither speed or impairment by the driver were factors in the crash.

Since January, there have been 14 traffic fatalities in the city, compared to eight at this time last year, police data shows.
